A pedestrian was declared deceased on scene after being struck by a vehicle while walking near the roadway in the 15400 block of Euclid Avenue.

On Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at approximately 12:15 a.m. Chino PD Officers responded to an injury traffic collision in the 15400 block of Euclid Avenue. The collision involved a 2013 Nissan Sentra and a 62 year old male pedestrian, later identified as Lawrence Griffeth of Fullerton.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Nissan, driven by Erika Gutierrez, age 40 of Corona, was traveling south on Euclid Avenue. The pedestrian is believed to have been near the southbound lanes of traffic. The Sentra collided with the pedestrian, fatally injuring him. Gutierrez and a passenger in her vehicle were uninjured.

Chino Valley Fire Paramedics arrived on scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Gutierrez was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene for felony driving under the influence. She was later booked at West Valley Detention Center. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

During the investigation, Euclid Avenue was closed between Merrill Avenue and Kimball Avenue. The roadway remained closed for approximately five hours as members of the Chino Police Department Traffic Unit completed their investigation.
