City of Chino Participates in Annual Event and Tests Emergency Notification System
The City of Chino will, “Drop, Cover and Hold On” for the annual Great ShakeOut drill taking place Thursday, Oct. 19, at 10:19 a.m. All city buildings and employees will join millions across the world participating in the drill.
The Great ShakeOut is the perfect time to sign up for emergency alerts as well as update family, business and organization profiles at www.cityofchino.org/chinonotify.
The city will use the Great ShakeOut opportunity to test Chino Notify, the mass notification system used by the city. Chino Notify allows residents and business owners to receive emergency notifications as well as sign up for other types of information such as road closures, community alerts, community events and press releases.
Registered users choose his/her preferred delivery method, by phone, text, or email for up to five locations within the City boundaries. Chino Notify is one of several ways for residents to stay connected to the City.
City Manager, Matthew Ballantyne states, “It is critical for community members to register and maintain their contact information in our mass-notification system. Most recently, we have seen scores of communities face disaster and the affected communities’ ability to communicate with residents during these emergencies and natural disasters has been critical to survival. Chino Notify is an additional communication tool in our arsenal of emergency preparation.”
