Posted Date: 6/14/2012
Over the last several months, copper wire running underground used to power several street lights throughout the community has been stolen, Officers suspect the wiring is being sold for scrap.

There are more than 3,000 City owned street lights scattered throughout the community located in residential and industrial areas as well as in public parks. Over the last 11 months, 20 repairs have already taken place and an additional four repairs are pending; these repairs come at a cost of $52,000.

It is suspected that the thefts are taking place at night, but Officers of the Chino Police Department ask that you report any suspicious activity taking place around light poles day or night.
