The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) informs the public that construction contractors will perform pavement work and lane closures for the $8.7 million State Route 60 (SR-60) Corridor Improvement Project at Ramona Avenue Overcrossing in the City of Chino.
The next 55-HOUR FULL EAST-BOUND CLOSURE will begin at 11:00pm on Friday, August 12 and continue to 5:00am on Monday, August 15. Work will require a Full Closure of all east-bound (EB) lanes on SR-60 at Ramona Avenue. Traffic will be rerouted at the Ramona Avenue off-ramp and back to the EB SR-60 on-ramp. Anticipate traffic delays.
Additional signage will be put in place on SR-60, I-15, SR-71 and Ramona Avenue. Traffic will be rerouted at the Ramona Avenue off-ramp then back to SR-60 EB on-ramp. CalTrans will be monitoring the intersection and providing flaggers to direct traffic.
PLAN AHEAD and drive safely being mindful of closures and alternate routes.
The four weekend closures are expected to take place on the following dates:
- Friday, August 5, 2022 11:00pm to Monday, August 8, 2022 at 5:00am - Full Eastbound Closure
- Friday, August 12, 2022 11:00pm to Monday, August 15, 2022 at 5:00am - Full Eastbound Closure
- Friday, August 19, 2022 11:00pm to Monday, August 22, 2022 at 5:00am - Full Westbound Closure
- Friday, August 26, 2022 11:00pm to Monday, August 29, 2022 at 5:00am - Full Westbound Closure

SBCTA Central Avenue Interchange Project
In an effort to improve traffic flow along Central Avenue and State Road (SR) 60 access for the local community, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and the City of Chino, in cooperation with the Caltrans District 8, will widen the Central Avenue interchange at the SR 60 bridge to accommodate three through-lanes and double left-turn lanes in both the northbound and southbound directions and will widen the existing eastbound and westbound on-ramps to SR 60 from one lane to 2 through lanes and a carpool lane.

Planned Lane Closures - The Preserve
Breaking Ground on the Town Center at The Preserve
As part of the development of the Town Center at The Preserve, Pine Avenue between West Preserve Loop and Harvest/Homecoming is being improved. Improvements include widening the road to 5 lanes, 2 new traffic signals, repaving of Pine and installation of underground utilities & center medians. Once completed, this project will relieve congestion and improve traffic flow on Pine Avenue.
UPDATED Timeline: July 30, 2022 - Spring 2023
Access: Pine Avenue will be reduced to one lane in both directions between West Preserve Loop and Homecoming Drive for the duration of the project. Additionally, access to East Preserve Loop south of Pine will be closed for the duration of the project. Westbound Kimball, west of Euclid, is now open.
Detours: Residents of The Preserve can take Kimball as an alternate route. Eastvale residents are encouraged to take Archibald north to Merrill. Residents south of Pine can use Market Street to Hellman, additionally, Legacy Park St is now opened and available as an alternate route. Truck traffic will be diverted to Merrill.
City Actions to Improve Traffic Flow:
- The Chino Police Department will have an increased presence in the area to help with traffic control and ensure trucks are diverting to Merrill Ave.
- Reader boards will be posted displaying alternate routes.
- The East Preserve Loop traffic signal will be turned off to help keep traffic moving.
- Traffic signals on Pine and in the surrounding area will be heavily monitored and timed to expedite traffic.
Looking Ahead: On the week of August 15, 2022, Kimball will be reduced to one lane in each direction to recap the street. City staff is working with the developer to adjust the Pine schedule to allow greater access. Stay tuned for updates.

Kimball Avenue from Rincon Meadows to Main Street
Westbound lanes will be closed intermittently for night work taking place from 7:00PM to 6:00AM, Monday through Friday beginning Monday, May 9 through July 22, 2022. Eastbound lanes on Kimball Avenue will remain open at all times.
Spirit Street from Main Street to Bravery Avenue
Full closure through August 2022 for developer related construction and improvements.
Other Planned Road Closures
12th Street from Edison Avenue and Connie Yankey Way.
Full Closure through July for the rehabilitation of the Ayala Park north parking lot.
Chino Avenue from Saddle Lane to Euclid Avenue
Single lane closures through August 12 for minor touch ups and slurry windows. Layout and striping will be commencing tentatively starting August 15 - August 26.
Cypress Avenue from Chino Avenue to Walnut Ave and
Westbound Walnut Avenue from Cypress Avenue to San Antonio
Closure in place Monday through Friday 7:00am-4:30pm beginning May 26 through November 2022 for the installation of a water transmission main.
East End Road from Napa Drive to County Road
Full closure Monday through Friday 7:00am-3:30pm beginning May 24 through July 2022 for street improvements including installation of new curb, gutter and access to utilities.
Edison Avenue from Central Avenue to East of Oaks Avenue
Eastbound and Westbound turns on Edison at Oaks are closed. Detour routes are Central or Mountain to Eucalyptus / College Park.
More about the Project: Construction of storm drain, street widening, curb, gutter & sidewalk, pavement rehabilitation, Ayala Park entrance improvements, traffic signal improvements, and pedestrian accessibility improvements as part of the College Park ultimate Improvement Project through early 2023.
Phillips Ave from S. Benson Avenue to Vernon Avenue
Full closure from 9:00pm on Friday, July 29 through 5:00am on Saturday, July 30 as Southern California Edison completes utility work.
