Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Prevention Programs
The Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and the City of Chino, Community Services Parks & Recreation Department offers prevention programs to school age students who attend schools within the District. The following is a list of available programs.
Model Smoking Prevention Program (MSPP)
MSPP is a smoking prevention program for students in 6th grade. MSPP helps students make healthy choices when it comes to smoking or using any tobacco product. It educates students ion the long-term risks of smoking, smokeless tobacco (chew) and electronic cigarettes. It uses participatory activities and videos to help motivate adolescents against smoking, teach skills and strategies needed to resist pro-smoking pressure.
This program runs throughout the traditional school year at twenty of the Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) elementary schools and two Fundamental kindergarten through 8th grade schools.
Project ALERT
Project ALERT is a drug prevention program for students in the 7th and 8th grades and is an age-appropriate substance abuse prevention curriculum proven effective in reducing experimentation among teens, and in reducing usage among teens who experiment. Through the use of participatory activities and videos Project ALERT focuses on alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and inhalants. Substances that are the first and most widely used by young people today. Project ALERT's focus is on motivating non-use, learning to recognize pressures to use, and on developing and practicing skills to resist these pressures.
The program runs throughout the traditional school year at six junior high schools and two Fundamental kindergarten through 8th grade schools.
Smokeless Saturdays
Smokeless Saturdays is conducted during Saturday school and helps students make healthy choices when it comes to smoking and using any tobacco product. It educates students on the long-term risks of smoking, smokeless tobacco (chew) and electronic cigarettes. It uses participatory activities and videos to help motivate adolescents against smoking, teach skills and strategies needed to resist pro-smoking pressure, and establish non-smoking norms. Students also learn coping strategies, as well as how to handle stress in healthier ways.
Smokeless Saturdays, runs throughout the traditional school year at the District junior high and high school schools.
Call It Quits (CIQ)
CIQ is a confidential voluntary group that meets once a week during class or after school. Students sign up in their schools Health Office in the CIQ binder. Students learn coping strategies, how to handle stress in better, healthier ways and get support form your peers while moving toward a sober lifestyle.
CIQ runs throughout the traditional school hear at four high schools and one continuation school within the District.
