What is SB1383?
SB1383, passed in California in 2016, is the most significant waste reduction mandate in the last 30 years. The law aims to combat climate change by reducing the organic waste that generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas, in our landfills. Under this legislation, all Californians, including Chino residents, are required to recycle organic waste.

What should you expect?
Your green yard waste cart is now your organics cart! Starting July 1, 2023, place food waste, food-soiled paper and yard waste into your green organics cart. Residential customers who don't currently have a green waste cart will be receiving an additional cart in the near future.
Your Green Waste Cart – What goes in it?
Your green waste cart is for all things organic! Here's what should go in your cart:
Food Waste: Food scraps, meats, dairy, eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables, coffee grounds, and bakery items. (Do not bag materials)
Food Soiled Paper: Coffee filters, tea bags, soiled paper bags, paper towels, napkins and uncoated takeout containers.
Yard Waste: Small tree limbs, brush, plant materials or grass. Please do not include rocks, dirt, or soil. Please limit tree branches to 3" in diameter.
Do Not Include: Loose plastic bags, food waste in plastic bags or film, compostable serveware, plastic recyclables, foam cups containers, hazardous waste, batteries, fats, oils or greases.

Top Tips for Successful Organics Recycling
- Keep a small kitchen-counter pail for organic waste while you're cooking. Empty the pail regularly into your green organics cart with your yard waste.
- Use baking soda and charcoal filters to help minimize odors.
- Keep food scraps in the fridge or freezer and empty them directly into the green waste cart on your service day to minimize odors.
- Place food waste in a paper bag.
- Line your cart with yard waste first, then place your food waste on top.
- Rinse your green waste cart as needed.
