Chino Police Arrest 37 in Illegal Street Racing

On Sunday, July 30, the Chino Police Department’s Traffic Unit became aware of Illegal Street racing in the area of Bickmore and Mountain Avenues. Officers conducted surveillance in the area and observed numerous vehicles illegally racing, as well as committing other reckless and dangerous acts. The area was contained and all participating parties, including spectators, were detained.

A total of 37 people were arrested for either participating in the street race, a violation of the California Vehicle Code (23109 CVC) or being present, which is a violation of the Chino Municipal Code (CMC 10.15.020).

“Street racing is a dangerous activity for everyone involved as well as innocent members of the public who happen to be traveling the same streets,” states Traffic Enforcement Unit Sergeant Jason Cloke. Sgt. Cloke further states, “The Chino Police Department takes street racing seriously and is dedicated to ensuring that the roadways remain safe for all motorists.”

In April 2017, two vehicles were engaged in street racing on Ramona Avenue when one lost control. The driver of that vehicle was killed instantly and his passenger was significantly injured.
